Gronkowski won’t be investigated for Illegal Gambling

It appears that the “Gronk Party Ship,” or rather a commercial cruise featuring New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, won’t be investigated for illegal gambling.

The NFL quickly dismissed a CBS report that stated a league attorney would investigate whether gambling aboard the cruise ship violated league rules. The CBS story was based on a January report, where the NFL told Gronkowski’s agent and the player union that it would make sure the Gronk Party Ship event met league standards.

According to the NY Daily News, the NFL must be satisfied that Gronkowski did not engage in or benefit from any gambling that would have violated policy.

The Gronk Party Ship set sail from Miami on February 19 to a private island located in the Bahamas and Nassau. The 3-day cruise featured famous entertainers and hip-hop artists, including Flo-Rida, Waka Flacka Flame and Redfoo. No gambling was advertised on the event’s main page, however, pictures did show certain cruise patrons gambling in the ship’s casino.

A group associated with the Tony Romo’s National Fantasy Football Convention is apparently looking into the Gronk Party Ship. The convention was shut down because it dealt with fantasy football, so the group is now examining what took place on Gronkowski’s cruise ship. Here’s an excerpt from a petition filed in court:

“NFL player Rob Gronkowski hosted a party cruise from Miami to the Bahamas on February 19-22, 2016. The four-day party took place on Norwegian Cruise Line, where Gronkowski’s fans and attendees can take full advantage of Norweigan’s famed ‘Casinos at Sea.’ Photos from the booze-cruise show fans gambling at the on-board casino. The NFL specifically knew about the party cruise and its ties to gambling for more than seven months leading up to the event; yet the NFL took no action to either discipline Rob Gronkowski or prevent the event from taking place.”

Aside from gambling on the ship, Gronkowski was pretty wild during the cruise. At one point, he offered a couple $10,000 if they would “bang in front of everybody.”

As for his football career, Gronkowski is a 4-time Pro-Bowler and was a prominent member of the Patriots’ 2014 championship team. He’s widely regarded as the NFL’s best tight end, and he backed this up last season by catching 72 passes for 1,176 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.
